About Hunter & Lassal

Our Last (Reluctant) Mirror Selfie
Hunter always worried about the world in mirrors. So he perfected the art of looking away—until the very end.
About Lassal
My path has meandered from research institutes to advertising to storytelling, driven by one constant: curiosity about what makes us tick. Something, my dog seemed always to grasp much better than I did.
While originally attracted to science, I was increasingly fascinated by the deeper human mysteries: the complexities of relationships, the nature of friendship, and our peculiar ability to nurture or destroy the very connections we crave.
The Little Hunterman series began with letters about my Parson Russell terrier, Hunter, whose recent passing has distressed me immensely. Through his eyes, I discovered surprising new ways to explore human nature. His perspective on life—ethical, loving, sometimes puzzled but always genuine—opened windows I never expected to find.
I now work on two kinds of stories: Little Hunterman's illustrated world and mystery novels for Flynn and myself. Different approaches, same fascination: understanding who we are beneath the surface.

It started with a wedding
A Family Affair Turned Accidental Career
Long before "Little Hunterman," although in quite the same universe, there was "Little Tobi"…
I don't know what shocks me more: the vast similarities between the two, or that I only just noticed them while writing this descripition.

It proceeded with a cartoon
A Dog (Cartoon) to the Rescue
While EVERYONE loved my dog Hunter, my family's patience with me and my nightshifts and weekend work had long since run out. So I did the only thing I could think of to save myself from eternal family-wrath: more work!
This is how Little Hunterman's cartoons were born—mostly as rough drafts during endless phone briefings with clients and quick colorings while waiting for feedback of the same.
Thankfully, Hunter played along and mellowed my family in the process.
The power of a dog is truly without words.
